Canine Behavior Consultant
Greg Riley MS CPDT
Canine Rehabilitator &
Master Aggression Specialist
A lover of dogs, and all of nature in general since childhood, Greg has been training dogs for over three decades. Greg understands the inherent nature of dogs and their ability to draw us out of ourselves and towards a deeper connection with the more-than-human world. In the words of ecologist and philosopher-poet David Abram; "We are human only in contact, and conviviality, with what is not human." And today it is this integral connection between dogs and their hoomans, and the sense of wonder that it engenders, that drives and informs all of Greg's training and rehabilitation endeavors here at Off The Hook Dogs.

Today, Greg is considered one of the area's foremost experts in canine cognition and emotion. He is a Master Aggression Specialist; an Anthrozoologist; a trained Applied Canine Behaviorist and Ethologist; and a professional canine rehabilitator who has successfully trained and rehabilitated thousands of dogs over three-plus decades. In addition to earning a Master's Degree in Anthrozoology with a depth of study in both Ethology and Behaviorism, Greg has completed numerous training apprenticeships and programs with such luminaries as Michael Shikashio, Kim Brophey, Sophia Yin, Ian Dunbar, Michael Ellis, Cesar Millan, Victoria Stilwell, Karen Pryor, and through Duke University and the University of Edinburgh. Greg's post-graduate studies and ongoing research centers on the correlated neural activity of socially interacting mammals - specifically, the intentional synchronization of inter-species alpha brain waves (related to relaxation, a sense of freedom, a reduction of over-thinking, and consequent insightful realization/learning and inter-species communication) - and how such knowledge and practice might inform his behavior modification trainings and emotional therapies - all of which experience ensures a science-based and humane training experience that maximizes the human-canine bond while training dogs to reach their highest potential.
Here at Off The Hook Dogs! Greg specializes in Positive Marker Training, Game-Based Behavior Modification Training, Off-Leash Proficiency Training, and Problematic Behavior Rehabilitation & associated Emotional Transformation Therapies; all through the employment of humane methodologies. Greg is also a professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP), the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), and is a certified trainer and evaluator for both the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen, and the APDT C.L.A.S.S. Canine Life and Social Skills training programs. Greg also comes recommended by several area Veterinarians and Animal Control Officers for his compassionate demeanor, humane approach to behavioral interventions, and proven results.
Greg celebrates each animal's unique characteristics, and will work with yours to give them the specific help & guidance they need. He takes the time to deeply connect and lovingly bond with your best friend, and all of his training protocols are then informed by that bond and tailored to your pet's unique personality and disposition. This is a personal, boutique style training experience that enhances the human-canine connection and results in dogs who are happy & eager to learn; a genuinely fun and joyful training experience yielding spectacular results.
Whether you’re thinking about getting a pet, have a new pet, or already love a pet with emotional or behavioral problems... Greg can help!
